Four hundred and ten members raised $180,000 in shares to open a grocery co-op in a Hamilton Road unit vacant since 2021.
The city's food-access mapping has flagged the area as underserved in every update since 2015. A municipal grant covered $40,000 of the fit-out; the rest is member capital and a credit-union loan.
The co-op will open five days a week to start, with a stated goal of seven by spring.
